Depleted Uranium is used in many industries and applications, such as shielding material, civil engineering equipment and collimators for linear accelerators. Users of radioactive sources often use DU as shielding and, although the sources may have been previously disposed of, the liability of the DU has remained. In other applications, DU has become redundant as technology has advanced. For most organisations, this creates an unwanted and on-going regulatory and administrative burden. In the current climate of heightened security, regulatory pressure to prevent stock-piling of material has been frustrated by the lack of the UK recycling route. DU recycling routes have been severely limited for many years, which has led to many organisations stock piling their DU. We are now able to help holders of DU with the removal of this liability, as we have access to our parent company’s Tennessee facilities, which boast the world’s only commercial DU recycling plant. Recycled DU ends up being used for a variety of applications, excluding military use. The routes are in total compliance with UK good practice, meet Environment Agency requirements and our own stringent operating standards. All of this means that you can have total confidence in sending your material for recycling. Our highly experienced Technicians will be able to guide and advise you through the various steps so that dealing with this element of your radioactive inventory can be done quickly, safely and cost-effectively whilst satisfying all relevant regulations. We do the job properly. |
