Radioactive materials in industry are typically closed sources used in instrumentation and gauges, where they determine levels, volumes and thickness and open waste that has been generated as part of research work or Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) from drilling. Our clients in the oil & gas, chemical & pharmaceutical, food and primary manufacturing most often ask us to deal with closed sources such as Cs-137, Am-241 or Sr-90 and from just a few items to major site clearances with an inventory of hundreds of items. In addition to the operational problems redundant closed sources and open waste represent, they are a considerable financial liability. Finding the right partner to help NORM holders find an appropriate and cost-effective recycling or disposal route is vital. We recognise that speed of service is often vital to companies who may be planning maintenance operations or even site closure. Increasingly we are finding that companies want to manage radioactive ‘waste’ in the same way as conventional process wastes and support this with published recycling targets. Safeguard International is at the forefront of the drive to recycle more radioactive material: every inventory we receive is first evaluated to see if recycling is possible. Our experience with radioactive materials means that we have trained, professional staff available to help navigate you through the complex processes of recycling or disposal of closed sources or open waste. We recognise the importance of industrial site safety. Our collection Technicians have more than 250 years experience between them and you can rest assured that our focus on conducting collections safely is second to none. We do the job properly. We have supported many hundreds of industrial companies both in the UK and internationally in reducing their radioactive liabilities.
